Irish Deputy Prime Minister visits EABL Biomass Steam Plant

Nairobi, July 17th, 2024:

The Irish Deputy Prime Minister, Micheál Martin TD, today toured the EABL Biomass Steam Plant, which is part of the brewer’s path towards becoming a net zero carbon emitter in its direct operations by 2030.

Commissioned in 2022, the biomass steam plant has contributed to the reduction of EABL’s carbon emissions by an impressive 40,000 tons (Scope 1) per annum, thus promoting its cleaner energy alternatives and reducing the high costs associated with energy consumption. This has been realized by using agricultural waste as biomass fuel to allow for the value creation of waste that would primarily be discarded onto landfills or incinerated with no beneficial use.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Martin said; “It gives me great pleasure to be here today to see EABL’s Biomass Steam Plant in action. I am delighted to see the role Designer Group has played in showcasing Irish engineering expertise and innovation in the construction and operation of this plant. This excellence in skillset and infrastructure is essential for contributing to a greener economy, at the global and national levels. The plant has made a significant contribution to EABL’s target of accelerating to net-zero carbon. I commend this initiative, which shows important leadership in sustainability.”
